Moda Center

The Moda Center — formerly the Rose Garden — is the home court of the Portland Trail Blazers in the Rose Quarter on Portland's east side. With a basketball capacity of 19,393, it's one of the louder mid-sized NBA arenas, particularly during playoff runs.

Home Court & Betting Implications

NBA home court advantage has shrunk league-wide post-2020 but still matters at certain venues. The Moda Center historically delivers about a 2.5–3 point advantage for the Blazers vs. neutral-site expectations — slightly above league average. Public NBA models tend to plug in a flat 2.5-point home advantage and miss venue-specific adjustments.

Factors that matter for betting context:

  • Altitude: Portland is at sea level — no Denver-style altitude effect
  • Travel: West Coast teams (Lakers, Clippers, Warriors) get shorter trips; East Coast teams suffer time-zone effects
  • Rose Quarter crowd noise: Strong during meaningful games; quieter during late-season blowouts
  • The Rip City Connection: Sustained sold-out attendance — historically one of the top-15 fan bases by attendance percentage

The Building's History

The Moda Center opened in 1995 as the Rose Garden, replacing the historic Memorial Coliseum (still next door) as the Blazers' primary home. The arena has hosted multiple WNBA All-Star events, college basketball tournaments, and major concerts. It is also the home of the WHL's Portland Winterhawks junior hockey team.

Other Tenants

Besides the Blazers, the Moda Center hosts the Portland Winterhawks (Western Hockey League), occasional college basketball games, and a busy concert calendar. Memorial Coliseum next door (capacity 12,888) handles overflow events and remains a historic venue.
