DraftKings Oregon — Geolocation Troubleshooting
DraftKings Oregon uses strict geolocation to verify you're physically inside the state every time you place a wager. The system is designed to err on the side of caution — false negatives are common near state borders (especially Portland → Vancouver, WA). This guide covers the typical errors and how to fix them.
How DraftKings Geolocates You
DraftKings uses a combination of signals to confirm Oregon presence:
- GPS (when available — strongest signal)
- Wi-Fi network triangulation (the network's known geographic location)
- Cellular tower (cell ID and tower location)
- IP address (geo-IP databases)
- VPN/proxy detection (any anomaly fails the check)
On iOS, this uses the native Location Services framework. On Android, the separate "DraftKings Location Plugin" handles the work.
Common Error: "Not available in your location"
Most common causes:
- Location Services disabled — enable in OS settings and grant DraftKings permission
- VPN or proxy detected — disable all VPNs before opening the app
- Wi-Fi router with stale geo registration — try toggling Wi-Fi off and using cellular
- Near state border — covered below
- Spoofed location (developer mode) — disable mock locations in Android developer options
The Portland / Vancouver Edge Case
Portland sits across the Columbia River from Vancouver, Washington. If you're in north Portland, your Wi-Fi network or cell tower may occasionally register on the Washington side. Typical fixes:
- Switch off Wi-Fi and use cellular data only — cell tower geolocation is usually accurate to the river
- Restart the app to force a fresh location check
- Walk a few blocks south to a stronger Oregon-side signal
- If you're in Vancouver, you cannot wager in Oregon — period. DraftKings WA has different markets / availability.
VPN Detection
DraftKings actively detects and blocks VPNs, proxies, and remote-desktop sessions. Even residential / personal-VPN services are blocked. Disable any VPN before opening DraftKings — this includes corporate-required VPNs that may be on by default on managed devices.
Cross-State Travel
If you travel to Washington, Nevada, or California with funds in your DraftKings Oregon account, you can view but not bet. To bet in those states, you'd need a separate DraftKings account for that state (where DraftKings operates) — Oregon funds do not transfer across state lines under the Oregon Lottery contract.

Persistent geolocation failures despite the above fixes may require DraftKings customer support. The in-app "Help" → "Location Issues" flow generates a diagnostic report. Common resolutions include re-installing the Location Plugin (Android) or resetting Location permissions (iOS).
